This works’ contract included, in addition to the road construction works (earthworks, drainage, paving, vertical and horizontal traffic signals, landscaping), the consolidation work of alluvial soil settling with geo-drainage and pre-loading, given that large-scale silt subsidence and/or even sub-soil rupture was forecast.

This contract work also involved building 5 elevated crossings - 4 overpasses and 1 underpass.

The road route was located in floodable alluvial areas, occupied by salt-pans, which made it necessary to carry out several geotechnical structures, such as preloading fills, geotextile drains, crushed-stone piles.... All engineering works had to be anchored in reinforced concrete piles, the longest of which needed to be 50m deep

The remaining 200 km will be National Roads (EN), where improvements and/or upgrading will be carried out, consisting of major interventions at the level of paving, drainage and junction levelling. The work will also include the construction of two CAMs – Maintenance and Assistance Centres and two Service Areas.

All of the stretches include the construction of current engineering structures and special engineering structures. The most relevant of these will be the bridge over the River Sado, at a length of 900m.

The new construction includes the construction of the following 3 bypasses: Lagos, S. Lourenço / Troto, Faro (2nd phase).
Upgrading will be carried out on the EN125 road, including the construction of 32 roundabouts. Apart from the actual construction, contractual obligations also include the preparation of the entire project up to the final design.
The objective of the sub-concession is the reduction in the number of accidents, improve the performance of the roads in terms of capacity and traffic flow and improve the quality of life.

Main characteristics The contract for Túnel de Águas Santas, in the Highway A4 - Porto / Amarante, in subsection Águas Santas / Ermesinde, refers to the construction works of a new tunnel, north of the existing ones, downwardly of this section. It is an urban tunnel with geotechnical risks, which by its specificity associated with phenomenology surrounding the underground works, particularly with regard to induced displacements, necessarily requires very careful monitoring and constructive control. It has a cross-sectional profile housed in gabarit of 16.65 x 5.25 (l x h), with 2.0 m of left edge, 4 x 3.5 m of route and 0.65 m of right edge. In addition to the tunnel, the contract includes the execution of two highway sections associated with outlets, with about 120 m long to the west and about 170 meters long to the east and the deviation of the local road network, established through the "Restoring 2A ".

Indirect foundations were required 1528 m total 1,00 m diameter piles, due to the low support capacity offered by the ground in the area.

The ground-mounted falsework method, with Pall elements, was used to construct the support trestle of Senras Viaduct. For the other two viaducts, BB20 and Asnas BB70 columns were used to construct the deck. In certain circumstances the height of the deck reached 30 metres.

Main characteristics Rehabilitation and widening of bridges over the rivers Ribeira de Perofilho, Ribeira da Pedreira and Almoster with total replacement of the bridge decks using crossover girders with support control devices of belted neoprene resting on the abutment retaining walls. To ensure the support capacity of the abutments, pile foundations were laid, recovering the abutments in order to maintain the architectural remains of the existing work. The widening of the main road before and after the bridge also includes earthmoving (excavation and filling), compaction, paving and additional work, drainage and signalling and safety equipment.

A new layer of anti-corrosion protection was coated on the entire structure.The abutments were widened via the construction of reinforced concrete slabs and containment walls and embankments were added.
Reinforcement of Foundations:
The base of the pillar located on the lesser branch of the river had its foundations strengthened by a pre-stressed and reinforced concrete ring supported on micro-piles. The riverbed around the pillar was injected with cement grout.

Main characteristics This contract includes the following work: stabilization of a cliff, special foundations, reinforced concrete structure, and providing and mounting electromechanical equipment (lift).
The stabilization and coating of the cliff consists in the construction of a Munich-type wall and involves the following tasks: cleaning and re-profiling the cliff, micropiling, anchoring, geodrainage, nailing, poured concrete and reinforced concrete in the walls.
This was followed by the placement of 4 piles of Ø 0.60 metres in the foundation of the reinforced concrete wall and the white concrete structure itself.
The walls of the lift were done using climbing formwork, and the slab with falsework.
This was followed by the work of mounting the lift, metalwork (including frameworking) and finishing the entrances to the access platforms of the lift.

Main characteristics A work contract forming part of the Oporto Light Rail Network, on the Campanhã to Trindade stretch of line.
The work carried out comprised the excavation and removal of earth - cross-section of 70 m x 25 m and down to a depth of 25 m - equivalent to the interior of the station.
As the excavation work advanced downwards the lagged construction of reinforced concrete 0.80 m thick Berlin walls was performed, with temporary anchorages of variable loads (from 480 kN to 1,200 kN) and laterally moulded wall staying works using 811 mm diameter metallic tubes.

Constância Bridge - Santarém

Main characteristics Widening of deck and abutments:
The work consisted of the replacement of the existing deck for a metal slab wider than the existing surface, the strengthening of latticed girders, exterior pre-stressing and the insertion of seismic dampers on the abutments. A new layer of anti-corrosion protection was coated on the entire structure. The abutments were widened via the construction of reinforced concrete slabs and containment walls and embankments were added.

Reinforcement of Foundations:
The base of the pillar located on the lesser branch of the river had its foundations strengthened by a pre-stressed and reinforced concrete ring supported on micro-piles. The riverbed around the pillar was injected with cement grout

Muge Bridge - Santarém

Main characteristics Construction of a bridge using a combination of steel profiles and reinforced concrete. The bridge has two spans, providing a total span length of 60 metres.

This bridge will replace the existing one – a metal bridge with four spans, constructed in the 1940s.
The single most striking feature of this work contract is the construction of the new bridge beside the existing bridge, which after conclusion was then shifted into its definitive position in 3 days, during which time road traffic was cut off.

Main tasks:
• Reinforced concrete piles, 1000 mm in diameter, with a lost steel tube, each one around 30.0 metres deep.
• Construction of a temporary metal structure on which to construct the deck. This structure consists of three metal portals with track girders, six roller devices and braking mechanisms.
• Construction of the deck – the main structure of which is composed of two "I” beams of variable inertia, with a maximum height of 1.30 m and length of 60.0 m. The deck is a solid reinforced concrete slab.
• Shifting the deck into place over a period of 3 days, implying closing the bridge to traffic.

The process is composed of the following steps:
- Demolition of the existing metal bridge using an 80-ton crane and hydraulic scissors mounted on a rotating platform.
- Sliding the deck over the rollers into place. The force is provided by three 110-ton hydraulic bar jacks.
- Monitoring the sliding process using cameras mounted on each track beam, to control the movement.
- Raising the bridge, removing the rollers and inserting the definitive supports, using eight 159-ton hydraulic jacks
